A New Composition in Remembrance of Friday, November the 13th 2015
The attacks in Paris on the night of Friday 13 November by gunmen and suicide bombers hit a concert hall, a major stadium, restaurants and bars, almost simultaneously, and left 130 people dead and hundreds wounded.
I'm working on a composition for piano and other instruments in the attempt to freeze the feelings when recalling the facts that characterized the tragic day of the Paris attacks. I was initially driven by the impulse to throw myself into this work as soon as I learned of the tragic facts of November the 13th 2015; nevertheless, I decided to wait and let the initial feelings settle down, believing I would avoid a rashly attitude by immediately working on the project.
Part of the composition will require a musical contribution by everyone willing to participate. If you intend to participate, I'll ask you to provide a single note or rest to be part of the composition.
Why a single note or rest? By following the few steps I provided here below, particularly step no. 2, the result you'll obtain will be permeated with a profound significance, its essence representing a whole personal emotional sphere of which your awareness will be the witness. A collection of such notes and rests will provide a powerful significance because of their introspective density, not only in a metaphysical way, as it may seem, but in a more tangible one, by means of all possible psychological implications.
That's just about it. But before you proceed, go through the following steps:

That's just about it. But before you proceed, go through the following steps:
- You may decide, when the moment comes, to supply a note; therefore, you'll probably need a musical instrument beside you in order to determine the note's pitch. You may eventually record the note and decide to reproduce it with your voice or by any other means and establish its pitch at a later time; a recording will also supply better evidence for describing the note or rest. If you choose to record a rest, you may snap your fingers at the beginning and at the end of the rest: in this way you'll be able to determine its duration, while the density of the feelings that the rest will represent will be in your own consciousness. You'll be asked to describe that emotion to.
- Before you find your own sound, recall the events that characterized the day of Friday, November the 13th, 2015. Find the right moment to do so and take all the time you need. You can acquire some information here and here.
- When ready, find the first single sound or rest that better represents your feeling(s).
- Once you produced and retained your sound or rest, you'll have to fill a form describing it; the form will be sent to me personally.
- Although it will not be required, you may add your name and email into the form; your email will be used only to update you about the completion of the composition; you'll therefore receive not more than two emails in all. All emails will be stored in a single file and deleted after the completion of the composition. All emails and associated names will be securely stored and never shared or even used, for no reason, except for notifying you when the composition will be finished.
- I will include the names of all the contributors in the page's title of the composition whenever it will be published or performed; I therefore recommend you to add your full name to the form. You may add your age and Country as well. All contributors who'll decide to not supply their names, will be included among the anonymous authors. Anonymous authors contributions will appear in a specific section of the piece.
- You may provide only one single note or rest; you should not attempt to send your contribution multiple times.
